About Me
Hi, my name is Samantha (Sammy) Clanton. I'm a Classical Civilizations major with a minor in English (and unofficially Latin but I didn't declare). Throughout my four years at Oberlin, I was not only a dedicated student but a member of the OCWSOC varsity team.
Study Abroad
No, and I don't regret staying on campus either because I got to spend the time bonding with my fantastic roommate, Jackie Brant.
Favorite Place
The Science Center, specifically the atrium -- during my freshman year I lived in Barrows, and so when I need a place to do work that wasn't in my room, the science atrium proved to be the place where I was most productive. Not only that, but the windows made the space feel so open and less suffocating than most places (Im calling out Mudd, sorry). Also one of the best things about it was that most of my teammates on the OCWSOC team were science-related majors, and could often be found in said atrium, so I hardly ever found myself doing work alone. You could always find someone you knew in the atrium. Once they graduated, however, I became the person who had always secured a table to work at in the atrium even though my major was in no way related to the sciences. I also received an Obie crush one year where someone referred to me as Science Center Sammy due to the amount of time I spent in the atrium (which was very, very, very, often) and I just want to thank that person for the best nickname I have ever received, and for that I will be forever grateful.
Favorite Class
The majority of my favorite classes come from the Classics department. I am completely biased in that regard considering that Classics is my major; however, I honestly believe this department has the best classes, and even better professors who teach these classes. I am really torn between Greek and Roman Mythology and Greek and Roman Drama. I have always loved mythology in general (Percy Jackson had a lot to do with that), and Professor Sancinito taught it so well. It was a class I looked forward to everyday, and could confidently say that if I had declared a concentration, it would most likely revolve around that. Greek and Roman Drama, on the other hand, was also just a super fun and interesting class. It was taught by one of my favorite professorsProfessor Trinactywho teaches the course in a way that truly makes it enjoyable, even if you arent remotely interested in classics. These two classes were definitely easy As for me, not only because I loved the material being taught, but the professors are what made learning it that much sweeter.

I'm looking into getting my Masters degree, but I'm not in any rush with that. I plan to help out my mom for the time being with her ceramics business.
