About Me

Maggie Kinabrew came to Oberlin with one goal and one goal only: to get her two degrees in four years, please. What she didn't know was that Oberlin was going to give her so much more than just an academic education. In her four years at Oberlin, Maggie has been a Tasty Things Maker, Head Cook, and Treasurer for her co-op (Pyle for life!), has performed in five Student Dance Showcases with the ViBE Dance Company, has come to own two Math department t-shirts, has sung multiple world premieres of beautiful vocal music, and has been a part of seven Oberlin Opera Theater productions, both on and off stage. Maggie has also met life-changing professors and amazing friends, all of whom contributed to an experience the scared freshman version of her could never have imagined when she moved into North Hall in 2016. She is so grateful for everyone who has touched her life at Oberlin, and just wants to say thank you so much.

Favorite Place

The fishbowl in the Conservatory is the perfect place to nap, relax, study, or perform an opera scene, as I found out my sophomore year. It is just such a beautiful space, and I love the way it is so close to everything while also seeming so cozy and private.

Favorite Class

Harmonic Analysis with Chris Marx! Getting to take a class that combined my two majors in the last semester at Oberlin was such a cool experience, and I wouldn't have traded it for the world.

Clubs & Organizations

Oberlin Student Cooperative Association
ViBE Dance Company

Notable Quote

"But one needs a change sometimes. We take everything too much for granted, including each other" -Tove Jansson, from the book Moominpappa at Sea

Memorable Oberlin Moment

Getting food poisoning during the closing night of the Winter Term Opera (with the composer in the audience!), and somehow managing to keep it together enough to finish the show without getting sick on my beautiful costume. The relief at the end was palpable.

Graduation Date

05/25/2020

Future Plans

I will be going to Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music to pursue my Master's of Music in Voice and Opera under the tutelage of Carol Vaness.
