About Me
Monica Dix is graduating with degrees in Geology and Politics, and proudly hails from Shorewood, WI. Upon graduation, her interests lie in working to create more resilient communities by improving watershed management in the Midwest, especially in the context of natural disasters and climate change. She has worked with Professor Amanda Schmidt in the Geology Department to research topics across geomorphology and geohazards in the Midwestern US, Cuba, and New Zealand, and presented at conferences in English and Spanish both nationally and internationally. Monica is honored to be part of the Truman Scholar, Cole Scholar, and STRONG Scholar communities on campus and treasures having spent her final year welcoming in new Obies as a PAL and Senior Admissions Fellow. The highlight of her senior year was managing a 10-person geomorphology lab with four finnicky but lovable detectors, and continuing to build a strong community in the Geology department. For fun she loves to bake, throw murder mystery parties, and host a climate conversation radio show every with Sunrise Oberlin. While Monica will miss the supportive interdisciplinary community at Oberlin, she looks forward to spending the next year working on earth science issues at a federal level.
