I applied to Oberlin without ever having visited and wanted to dislike it based on how far away from my family it was. But the second I set foot on campus, I realized I loved it. Oberlin became like home to me and I found a family there. I came to Oberlin thinking I was going to be a Premed Biology major. On a whim, I decided to take Introduction to Cultural Anthropology my first semester. By my second semester, I had declared my Anthropology major and pretty much thrown out the plans for medical school (although I kept the Biology Major plans). Studying abroad in London second semester junior year was amazing. I got to go on Archaeological digs and worked at a museum in England for winter term. I met amazing scholars and touched 2,000 year old preserved wood, all because of Oberlin. This past year I also became one of the Biology Majors Committee Co-Chairs which was a wonderful way to interact with other Biology Majors and the Oberlin community. I grew so much at Oberlin, I hardly even recognize the person I was before I started college.

My first day on campus, visiting for the first time after having gotten in. It was pouring rain and there were people outside playing in the rain with no shoes on. It was a very Oberlin moment and one that helped me to decide that Oberlin was the place for me.
