About Me

DaQuan Williams 20 double majored in Anthropology and Musical Studies, primarily focusing his studies in the fields of choral conducting, music education, and ethnomusicology. DaQuan sang in and conducted several choral and vocal ensembles inside and outside of the conservatory. In his first year at Oberlin, he founded the annual Moses Hogan Sing-Along, served as the Assistant Conductor at the Grafton Correctional Facility through the Oberlin Music at Grafton Program, and in his fourth year, performed a senior conducting and voice recital entitled I Am Because We Are. His primary research centered around the black choral tradition at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, though for his capstone, he wrote an ethnography about virtual choirs due to Covid-19 and social distancing orders. He worked with the Oberlin Admissions Office, served as the Co-Chair of ABUSUA 17-18 (BSU), and was RA for Lord Side in A-house for two years alongside Darian Gray 20 and Dr. Candice Raynor. In his final months at Oberlin, DaQuan worked on a documentary with several other Black students centered around Black students transition to remote learning called Boxes Will Be Provided.

Memorable Oberlin Moment

My favorite Oberlin memory has to be that moment at one of the A-house cookouts where a bunch of us (black students) swagg surfed in the middle of south bowl, because who was to tell us we couldn't!
