About Me

Hi! My name is Abby (she/her) and I am a Politics major with an interest in American and electoral politics. Around Oberlin you can find me studying in Azzies while drinking an iced hot chocolate, catching up with friends at the Feve, or attending a comedy show on campus. Throughout my time at Oberlin I have enjoyed being an elected Politics major representative, co-chair of the Oberlin College Democrats, and a member of Program Board. Some of my favorite Oberlin memories including getting hugs from Al during fourth meal, performing in a comedy sketch with Bob Odenkirk, and leading a trip to the Cleveland Natural History Museum over this past winter term (2020). Off campus Oberlin has provided with some amazing opportunities as well. Ive had the chance to intern at Senator Sherrod Browns Cleveland and D.C. offices for winter term and the ability to intern on Nelsie Yangs winning city council campaign in St. Paul, Minnesota through the Cole Scholars politics program. Im thankful for my time here at Oberlin and Im excited to see whats in store next.

Study Abroad

I studied abroad in fall 2019 in Dublin, Ireland at the University of College Dublin.

Favorite Place

My favorite Oberlin space is Asia House library. I love it because it feels so scholarly and Hogwarts-like. I have so many fond memories of studying there with friends and ordering late night Domino's to keep us going.

Favorite Class

One of my favorite classes at Oberlin was my United States Congressional Political and Legislative Strategies class taught by Professor Jennifer Garcia. I loved this class because I found learning about gender and racial representation in Congress fascinating but also it challenged me to become a better writer and helped improve my critical writing skills. Also, Professor Garcia was a fantastic teacher and mentor who after taking this class ended up becoming my advisor.

Memorable Oberlin Moment

One of my favorite Oberlin moments is at the beginning of the semester my sophomore year of college when I was living in a cozy room in Keep with my friend Terra. We had all our friends over to celebrate another friend's 21st birthday. We put up funny photos of him and drank tea and talked. It was so great to just catch up after being apart all summer. After a challenging freshman year I finally felt like I had a caring, supportive friend group and was excited to be living in a beautiful space.

Future Plans

My current plan is to take some time off and then apply to grad schools to get my Masters in Urban Planning with a concentration in Economic Development.
